TNTlite V6.90 (free version of TNTmips V6.90)

Download TNTlite

What is TNTlite?     TNTlite is a slightly reduced — but completely free — version of the professional GIS software TNTmips. There are no limitations to the use of the program: it is even possible to carry out commercial works with TNTlite. TNTlite is not a demo and, once installed, its functionality will not terminate after some trial period. It is ideal for testing the features of the TNT products prior to decide the purchase of a professional license, or for employing it in teaching geospatial information systems.

Which are the limitations in TNTlite?    TNTlite has two kinds of limitations with respect to the professional version of TNTmips:
  1.  The export functions towards other geodata formats are not available. The import functions instead are retained active.
  2. The size of the data objects that can be treated are limited in the following manner.
— Raster: the data need to fit into a rectangle of 614×512 cells (pixels), which means a total maximum size of 314.368 cells.
— Vector: a single data object must not be composed by more than 500 polygons, 1500 lines, 500 points, and 1500 text labels.
— CAD: a single data object must not be composed by more than 500 drawing elements and 5 blocks.
— TIN: a single data object must not be composed by more than 500 nodes.
— Databases: a single data table must not be composed by more than 1500 records, and a database object cannot contain more than 5 tables.
In the TNTmips data format (RVC format) a “data object” correspond to what, in other GIS software, is usually called file, coverage, or drawing. In TNTmips — and also in TNTlite — it is possible to archive more data objects within a single RVC file, and it is hence possible to overcome partially, and with a bit of patience, the above listed limitations by subdividing large datasets into smaller pieces which are compatible with the TNTlite specifications.

Is it possible to upgrade from TNTlite to TNTmips?     Yes. From a pure technical point of view the unique difference between the free and the professional version is the presence of a software key (or a network license server) which removes the limitations from the program and transforms TNTlite in every respect into TNTmips. Likewise, if the key is removed (or the license server is not available) the installation on your computer will be automatically transformed from TNTmips into TNTlite. Also the installation CDs of TNTmips and TNTlite are identical.

For which operating system is available TNTlite?    For all those for which is available also TNTmips, that is
— Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP,
— Macintosh OS X,
— Linux Intel (2.0.36 - 2.2.x),
— Sun Solaris 2.x (SunOS 5.x),
— SGI IRIX, and
— IBM AIX (PowerPC).

Where can TNTlite been obtained from?     Without any fee from the download table here below for the Microsoft and Macintosh operating systems and from the download page at the American MicroImages’ web site for the other systems, or for  12.- by ordering an installation CD from HeSc PTU&GIS. In addition, who is connected from Germany may find it more convenient to download TNTlite from the GIS Team’s web site at Gießen.
